It’s no secret that the construction industry is riddled with wasted productivity, especially on jobsites. Whether it be wasted time, wasted energy, unnecessary movement of trades and materials, defects/rework, or even wasted talent. The project superintendent is the sole person on a jobsite that has the greatest influence over these wastes, positively or negatively. An untrained superintendent can contribute to a lot of waste, which in turn can cost an owner a lot of time and money. As construction continues to evolve and projects become increasingly complex, the sophistication of a project superintendent needs to continue evolving with the industry. The typical path of development for a superintendent is one that started out in the trades and worked their way through the ranks based on experience and work ethic. This individual is usually very skilled in their craft and has honed their project leadership skills through experience. However, rarely are they taught the non-tangible skills required to run a project efficiently.
My approach at Systemized Construction Consulting is to coach/mentor your superintendents and/or project team to make them much more effective leaders, collaborators and communicators. I do this by arming them with the tools to not only be successful at pre-planning the project, but also by enhancing the project team's cohesiveness through utilization of visual aid systems, helping facilitate seamless execution for the entirety of the project.
